Mission Statement

St. Bonaventure University has long valued the military veteran as a member of our campus community. Our designation by U.S. News & World Report affirms our commitment to veterans and their dependents. Our new Student Veterans Center is staffed by two full-time employees dedicated solely to the needs of veterans as they transition from military to academic life.

The values we cherish — discovery, community and individual worth — create a great enviroment for veterans transitioning to civilian life. These principles are shaped inside and outside the classroom, bolstered by the support of a caring campus community that nurtures mind, body and spirit.

In addition to being a Military Friendly School, part of the Yellow Ribbon Program, St. Bonaventure offers:

Veterans among our ranks

Veterans hold key administrative positions at the university, such as Richard Trietley Jr., vice president for Student Affairs, a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Army; Michael Leonard, director of Veterans Services; and John Gordnier, assistant director of Veterans Services. (See profiles of their military careers on our Veterans Spotlight page.)

In addition, as faculty and administrators, veterans offer a supportive and inclusive learning environment. As students, they bring unique life experiences, maturity and leadership into the classroom.

St. Bonaventure students and alumni have a deep and proud history of service to their country. Each year, the university honors them on Veterans Day in a ceremony at the campus memorial that recognizes those brave souls from St. Bonaventure who gave their lives in war. Additional veterans-related activitiesare offered during the year.

Veterans, St. Bonaventure values your service to the nation. We stand ready to facilitate your admission to the university and to provide services to help ensure your academic success. Please take some time to explore our veterans website and to discover the benefits we offer to veterans and their family members.
